Miriam Kann turned 103 years old Wednesday and the community wanted to celebrate the local centenarian.

Associates at Brookdale Lafayette, along with family members and community residents, treated residents on Tuesday to a surprise Christmas in July parade. Employees dressed in holiday attire and the event featured special appearances by the Grinch and even Santa Claus himself.

With Brookdale Weatherford in Weatherford, Oklahoma, meeting the criteria to begin outdoor visits, families are beginning to visit their loved ones for porch visits. Juliet Holt Klinger, Dementia Care Expert at Brookdale Senior Living, has seen firsthand how robotic pets can enhance quality of life for residents with dementia. “We were early adopters of this technology at Brookdale and helped develop a use case for the pets within a dementia care environment,” explains Klinger.

Brookdale resident Margaret Ruth Henry celebrated her 100th birthday Friday, and she had a request that made its way around social media. She asked for one hundred birthday cards, and 23ABC and community members made sure her wish came true.

A local senior living facility surprised two of their residents who celebrated 70 years of marriage. Garth and Doris Black were married on July 14, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They now live in the Brookdale Senior living community in southwest Bakersfield. Brookdale surprised the couple with a huge cardboard cutout of their wedding photo with balloons to celebrate their anniversary.

Lucinda “Cindy” Baier has been inducted into McKnight's Senior Living Hall of Honor. She became president and CEO at the country’s largest senior living company, Brookdale Senior Living, in early 2018 after having been chief financial officer since late 2015. She took the helm at the firm’s most challenging time, with the board having just completed a strategic review and deciding to change leadership and not sell the company.

Bob Berman, who lives at Brookdale Riverwalk in northwest Bakersfield, celebrated his 100th birthday Thursday with help from the community. The staff at Brookdale asked the community to send him videos wishing him a “happy birthday” to make his day special.

The residents of Brookdale Hamilton Wolfe were celebrated Saturday, June 6, with a special parade that included the San Antonio Police Department, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), The American Legion and the president of the Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association. With Mother’s Day on Sunday, one Sumter nursing home found a creative way to celebrate. Brookdale Sumter Senior Living facility hosted a parade with family, friends and staff to spread a little joy to the mom’s there.
