People Magazine counts a Brookdale resident's request for birthday cards as one of the seven veteran stories that touched our hearts this year.

Betty Petrie marked her 104th birthday on Oct. 29. KERO Channel 23 came out to talk with the veteran about her service and her birthday. She was Lt. Junior Grade in the U.S. Naval Reserve working in communications, but due to 'where' she worked, her service was classified. Click to hear more about Betty. 

It was a night for the stars at Brookdale Colonial Heights Senior Living Center. The residents won three awards at the 3rd Annual Brookdale Celebrate Aging Film Festival for their film, #GIRLS. WJHL came out to talk to the residents about their celebration.

Brookdale Foundation House recently celebrated the opening of the Clare Bridge Memory Care on Oct. 24. The Greater Federal Way Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting last week at Brookdale for elected officials, business leaders and community members to learn about the program and tour the luxury apartments offered to those needing care for Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Residents from Brookdale Canyon Lakes are nominated for both Best Acting and the Ecolab People’s Choice Award at the third annual “Celebrate Aging Film Festival” in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Residents and associates at Freedom Village Bradenton were nominated for Brookdale's 3rd Annual Celebrate Aging Film Festival. Their nomination was covered by ABC 7 in Sarasota, FL. 

Recently, Kim Elliott, Brookdale's senior vice president of clinical services, talked to "Nashville Medical News" about the changing landscape of health care in senior living.

McKnight's Senior Living announced today, that Brookdale Canyon Lakes in Kennewick, Washington, won the top prize, a Gold award, in the Activities category of the Senior Living track of the 2019 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards. A local business is working to make memory care more accessible. Caring for someone with memory-related diseases is difficult, expensive and heartbreaking. However, one company is trying to take the weight off caregivers’ shoulders.

Increasingly, researchers are documenting how loneliness and isolation represent an extensive threat to public health, especially among older adults. Loneliness and isolation often lead to depression, cognitive decline, high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, a weakened immune system, dementia and other chronic conditions that reduce quality of life and hasten the end of life.

Residents of the community got the first crack at knocking down walls to make room for a $12 million expansion at Brookdale Vernon Hills that will add Alzheimer's and dementia care units, as well as enhance its common areas.

For the past decade, Brookdale Countryside resident Martha Heft has volunteered to make quilts for the Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas. WFTS in Tampa Bay came out recently to share Martha's story. Click to see her story and to hear how many quilts this 100-year-old has made (so far)! 

Brookdale’s CEO Cindy Baier was recently named to the Nashville Business Journal’s 2019 list of Most Admired CEOs! Wall Street Journal reporter, Angus Loten, recently reached out to Brookdale to interview the new CIO Chris Bayham. Chris discussed opportunities to use artificial intelligence, data analytics and voice assistant devices at Brookdale. He was quoted in the article saying that beyond guiding the company's IT systems, he will be focusing on innovations that will "enrich the lives of the residents and patients."
